Flood Surveys for Land Development

Before making a significant investment in land development, smart developers recognize the benefits of conducting flood surveys such as those from a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). At Ferguson & Chamberlain Associates Inc, we use these surveys to ensure you have all the facts before moving forward with your proposed land development project.

When you need the services of a proven surveyor firm, call us for assistance.

What Is a LOMA?

A LOMA is an official amendment to an effective National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) map. A LOMA states a property's location in relation to the special flood hazard area (SFHA). Typically, LOMAs are issued because a property’s location has been inadvertently mapped in a floodplain but it is actually on natural high ground above the base flood elevation.

Since LOMAs amend effective NFIP maps, they are public records. Communities are required to maintain them, and they should be noted master flood maps and be filed by panel number in an accessible location for all to see.

GPS – an Effective Tool for Understanding Flood Risk

FEMA flood surveys are quite effective for helping you understand the flood risks on a particular piece of property. They are continually updated to stay current. This is one of many methods we rely on to provide our clients with accurate data for land development.
